Welcome to Ysgol Gymraeg Trefynwy. The school was opened in September 2024 for 18 Nursery to Year 2 children following the demand for growth in Welsh education in Monmouthshire. We are established in the heart of the Monmouth community and share a site with Overmonnow Primary School. We will grow as a school, as our children grow.
Our Nursery children attend school full time, and we accept ‘rising three’ pupils in January and again after Easter. Our children have access to a breakfast club and an after-school club on the school premises.
Our school's vision is to create an ethos and atmosphere where everyone is welcome and included in a Welsh environment. Creating positive relationships with children is key for them to succeed and feel safe. We encourage our pupils to develop personal independence for themselves and others including their learning. Our inclusive curriculum will empower children to develop creative skills, and ignite curiosity for learning.

We are proud of Welshness and the culture of our local area and we are committed to instilling pride in the Welsh language. As a Welsh School, the emphasis is on fostering knowledge and understanding of Welsh culture and mastering fluency in the Welsh Language; bilingualism is an integral part of school life.
We also believe that it is by fostering close cooperation and a meaningful connection between home and school that we can do the best for our children. There will be opportunities for you to share in your children's education and we will be available to talk to you about any aspect of their development. This partnership is very important and by working together we can give support to each child to do the best of their ability.
